text: Finally we saw Noklak on a mountain in front of us. (232) After a short while came the order from up front to have the rifles ready. Slowly we advanced through the tall grass. Smith and I asked for our guns and loaded them. After some time we heard that those in front had seen many Noklak men. The column stopped, the sepoys pushed five more bullets into their magazines and everyone expected to hear the first shot any moment. I myself stood there gun ready and the loaded pistol in my pocket and hoped almost to have the chance to fire.
