setting up camp near Noklak |

Then we continued our march until we reached a place not far from the village which seemed appropriate for our camp. Here a small stream runs through a forest of tall trees and bamboo stands. The sepoys and coolies cut down the underbrush on an only slightly declining slope and they built a camp between the trees with huts and shelters closely huddled together. Numerous palm leaves which they had cut off nearby were very useful and they did not have to take twenty steps to get the necessary bamboo. (234) We had arrived about half past two, two hours later the camp was almost finished. |
