costumes and adornments of Pangsha peace envoys |
text: |
It is a steep path through dense jungle with little visibility and we are careful not to fall into a trap. (239) Finally we see four men with a goat and a chicken, the envoys with their offerings of peace. One of them is an old man, the others are middle-aged. Their attire is in no way remarkable. The belts are similar to the ones worn by the Chang but seem to be tighter. One is embroidered with wild job's tear and has a wooden dao holder fastened to it. I do not notice any adornment and tattoos are difficult to see. It restricts itself to chest and arms and seems to be different from the Chang tattoo. One of the men is wearing a dark blue cloak with red dog hair rectangles, the others only are wearing some unidentifiable rags of greyish-brown colour. We all sit down and the talks start with the help of Sangba as translator. |
