text: After I had taken several photographs I returned to the village. Crows had already descended on the bodies of the cows. A great many banana trees stand between the houses. (246) The granaries stand somewhat aside, all of them on posts with disc-shaped protection plates against rats. The coolies find little worth while taking along and I too return to Mills and Williams on their observation post. They fired the Lewis gun at a group on the slope opposite but it is dubious whether they hit anyone.
