exhausted land on the way to Panso |
text: |
Panso lies considerably lower than Yukao and we walked down for a long time along the slope through fields and old jhum land. All these slopes going down towards the Langnyu River, which no doubt belong entirely to Panso, are poor in tree growth and jungle. Only single elder trees stand on wide yellowing-brown spaces as well as some bamboo stands and small groups of bushes. (19) One sees clearly that the land has been planted to its exhaustion, the reason for which is Panso's size. On a hill from where one cannot yet see the village Panso has built us a camp with good huts. After some expansion it is quite usable. |
