villagers of Sangpurr hostile |

The behaviour of the people of Sangpurr has hardly improved since Hutton's visit although we didn't encounter open animosity, and the two gaonburas who Mills had given red cloaks in Chentang even offered us rice beer, still the entire village lay deserted and the doors of the houses were all tightly closed. We saw hardly more than twenty men who were sitting around sullenly while the children and women, with the exception of the gaonbura's wife apparently had all run away. |
