happiness and drinking in Tamlu to receive skull |

(72) I was the hero of the day and wherever I went everyone was laughing, especially the old gaonbura of Kanching who hardly could restrain his joy. Happy memories from his youth seemed to be revived and this feast which "was just like the old days" almost moved him to tears. Rice beer was flowing in abundance but unfortunately the people of Tamlu are not masters in the production of this beverage. I notice this especially coming from the land of the Chang and Ao. It was late when I finally went to bed but I still heard the drums for a long time. In the evening I still had to give a piece of the head to the people of the Tangsa morung who had found out about our arrival too late and therefore had not come to meet us. |
