text: On our way I had met whole groups of people from Wakching, men and women, who were bringing mats and other goods to the bazaar in Santok. The domestic tax is due at the end of January and so everyone is trying to get money. In long rows the people (173) were vigorously walking uphill from Kongan with their burdens, men and women in separate groups
