But soon the excitement simmers down and the actual ceremony is started. It was not the Niengba, Yonglong, who should have performed the ceremony, but in his stead one of his cousins who also is called Yonglong. (180) The real Niengba Yonglong had gone to the Santok bazaar. His brother, Yanou, could not represent him as he is a young man and feared the handling of the heads as they contain magic danger. Therefore Yonglong from a side line of the family was substituting. |
