arrival at Tanhai; tobacco |
text: |
With all these conversations we came to Tanhai where two gaonburas were waiting for me. In the morung I bandaged two foot wounds. After this visit and a change of coolies we went straight on. The path was quite good and the tall grass and bushes which in the rainy season threaten to bury it were now thin and dry. High above us there were two hornbill birds flying along and the metallic sound of their wings could be heard far away. From an open height we looked down upon Longkhai and Hungphoi as well as upon the small Lungnyu which has only ten houses. (46) On the other side of the river were Chi and Leangha temptingly close. Along the way there was a bed of the tobacco the Naga grow with a small fence around it. |
