cooking and suggestive jokes |
text: |
In the big back room the girls of the village today are cooking rice and vegetables in particular banana stalks which will be eaten by the young men in their morungs in the evening. Apparently they are all in a good mood and there is no end to the laughter. I say to Yongang that the young men are fortunate as they can sleep with these pretty girls after the dance while I have to dance but then must return to my lonely hut. He immediately translates this for the girls which results in boundless laughter. These good children seem not to be shy as the direct question in return is how much I would give as a reward for favours, whereupon I do not continue to spin out this particular joke. |
