"Nau-bau-bu", time of losing a child, is the name for any miscarriage. If it happens no later than during the second or third month of pregnancy only the women know about it and the miscarriage has no further consequences. If however a woman has a miscarriage at a later time the men hear about it too and the entire village holds a one day genna. This is an especially strict genna. Any work in the fields, hunting and fishing are prohibited, and only those women are allowed to fetch water and wood who themselves are too old to bear children. However the normal birth of a child does not initiate a village genna. |
