setting off on a small tour to Namsang |

Early in the morning I arranged my luggage for a small tour to Namsang and I sent the coolies on ahead. I myself set out only about two o'clock so I would not have to climb up the mountain to Kongan in the first heat of the day. The lack of extensive rains now is quite noticeable in the forest. The underbrush is dry and the entire plant growth does not have the density and lushness as during the rainy season. Many trees are still without leaves. As soon as one gets a bit further down it now is already quite warm. Castle however says that this heat is unusual for March and he predicts rain and some cooling down. I hope the rain does not come during my tour. Here it now is so warm in the evening that we are sitting down without coats. It is about 25o celsius. The sandflies too are already quite troublesome. |
