text: My camp is a bit below the Moniu morung. On the way to the village (201) the people of Namsang have not really made much of an effort. The two huts they built for the kitchen and for the servants are quite pathetic and hardly has my tent been pitched when Niampong arrived in great excitement with the dreadful news that the hut intended for him had been built from the ruins of a house abandoned after a bad death. In order to save themselves cutting and carrying new palm leaves the boys had simply assembled everything from a house abandoned because of bad death. There are several such houses. I myself saw three. Death during childbirth also is considered to be a bad death and I was shown a house where a woman had died under these circumstances. Niampong who as a man from Tamlu is firmly convinced of the contagiousness of the misfortune of a bad death then made a lot of fuss and soon a new hut was built for him.
