I notice several leaves still quite fresh in the Moniu morung and I am told of a ceremony which was performed yesterday on the second day of the Bangmoba when all young boys held genna leaves which are broken by an older man while he says certain words. (See notebook 7 p. 121). |

While we are still at the Moniu morung two boys bring a pathetic small ox which they have bought in the plains as a salaam for me and which is now to be killed on the spot. This not does not promise to be a pleasant performance but it is valuable for me in so far as I can watch how they actually kill cattle here. One of the boys ties the ox to a tree trunk which happens to lie nearby, then he hacks off all four legs at the knees with surprising speed |
