rebuilding the house of Thepong morung Ang |

When I showed up at the building site by eight o'clock the old house had already been pulled down. This had been done first thing in the morning only the parts of the platform under the roof are standing as well as the back house post which is not renewed and about thirty small posts, 'dze', set up at the outline of the building. These posts were still left from the wall of the old house. Some men are busy changing some while pushing others deeper into the ground. Modern iron bars are used to dig the holes for the different posts which the people obviously had received for road building. Then the two door posts, 'ta-shep', are set up which is connected with some difficulties. These posts have a wide incision on one side which almost makes them look like a trough. (225) This incision then holds the horizontal bamboo supports of the house walls. It is important therefore that the posts are set up so that the groove runs reverse to the entrance. |
