Chingtang celebrates the Oulingbu today and many Thepong people are going in order to participate in the feast and to fill up on pig meat. Shankok too has been invited by the Chingtang Ang who is his friend, 'Yingba'. (Yingba is the term for a friend from another village who is not of the same age). The Ang is much older than Shankok and calls him by his name while Shankok addresses him as "Ouba". Shankok comes to pick me up early in the morning and soon after seven o'clock we are on our way to Chingtang, including Shankok's little brother, Puknei. Chinyang does not go this year but will go next year to Chingtang with his age group. Last year Shankok's sisters and other Thepong girls also went to the Oulingbu there (241) but today they all stay in Wakching and are working on their fields. |
