This morning too I heard some interesting things from the gaonburas. When Yongmek does the ceremonial planting he takes the stalks of a grass already in the village (29) and to it he ties the seeds of the tayang fruit. This fruit grows on the dzou-bei tree (the weaver tree?) and it is flat and long like the sword of a loom. The seeds inside have paper thin wings which are carried away by the wind when the fruit splits open. Yongmek now fastens some of these little wings with the seeds in their centres to the tip of the grass stalks. SKETCH |
