killing pigs and singeing them |
text: |
Today it is Oksheakbu 'pig singeing day'. First thing in the morning the pigs are killed by the clan eldest in the usual manner, then their bristles are singed over a fire in the anteroom of the house and they are immediately divided. Fat, small bits of meat and blood are mixed with rice flour and chillies. This paste is then wrapped up in leaves and put into chungas of medium strength. The chungas are put onto a fire which is burning in the anteroom of the house. Once they are charcoal black all around, the stuffing is just ready. It is taken out and has turned into a solid, sausage like form which tastes like a blood pudding. Because of the chillies however the flavour is slightly too hot for our taste buds. |
