younger boys dance ; hair cutting |

Now some younger boys such as Shankok's brother Chinyang start dancing through the village in small groups. An older man from the Thepong also comes dancing along in full ornament of the true headhunter with buffalo horns on his hat, and in each hands he has swinging two head models with mithan horns. Shankok too originally wanted to put on a hat with buffalo horns but they were so heavy that the hat always slipped forward. Now he is satisfied with four splendid feathers. He shows me how formerly the tips of hair combed over the forehead were trimmed. One put a dao underneath with the cutting edge pointing upwards and then hit the hair with a wooden or bamboo mallet thus trapping and slicing off the hair between wood and cutting edge |
