text: Kauffmann left for Wanching this morning. His departure was full of difficulties as he took with him a part of the Konyak objects bought here and some carvings. Finally they were wrapped up in a huge basket which had been made especially. The Ang of Longkhai said that everyone had advised him not to carve the grave figures as that was genna. Even the Ang's of Mon, Hungphoi, and Wangla had spoken against it. I cannot say whether this was merely a manoeuvre to drive up the price.
