text: My departure today was like a caravan. No less than forty coolies had come together to carry my things to Borjan. Twenty had been requested by the gaonburas from Chingtang and twenty came from Wakching. The final packing and dividing of the loads was done with the gaonburas' help, but already at five in the morning the first coolies had woken me up. They came this early to pick out the lightest loads. I gave them a sour greeting. At about ten o'clock the coolies started to move off and by about eleven I followed with Nlamo and Yongem. It was sunny and very hot.
