Early in the morning I labelled a few more things and finished the packing as far as that is possible at the moment. In the afternoon we listened to the coronation of King George VI on the radio, his own words and the words of the Archbishop of Canterbury. It was quite impressive and even the description alone made it obvious that it must have been a splendid spectacle. Castle gave a tea party to his employees and workers. One could hardly imagine a greater mixture of colours and races than is exemplified by these children. (146) All shades were present from a light-skinned Afghan girl to those from Bhutan, Bengal and Assam, and to very dark-skinned children who probably have a bit of South Indian blood in them. |
