funeral of Ang's daughter |
text: |
Now comes a moving moment. The siblings and relatives of the deceased bent over her crying and lamenting and apparently calling her name. The Ang too, who up to now had been very restrained, now surrenders to his grief in loud crying. The little one's mother however has not come along at all, (158) probably because she was not up to this moment, but she had remained sitting next to the house, crying and watching the procession disappear. The little girl looks beautiful and touching in all her ornaments and her face has a peaceful expression. She is now put into the coffin and after a last outburst of grief the mourners gather themselves and in a line they go back to the house. Only the old men stay behind, wrap up the coffin with palm leaves, and slide it in between the platform and the protective roof. Then they tie it up and finally go home as well. |
