Then I continued the list of inhabitants with Shankok's help. There is a considerable number of people from Chinglong, many of them men who have married women of the Thepong. (172) The most astonishing case however is Loyang, house 30, who belongs to the Leunok clan and actually is a Bala man but his father already lived in the Thepong and he's even a member of the Thepong morung. His wife is from the Thepong. Shankok does not know how this case came about but he will make enquiries. Once a heavy downpour forced us to take refuge in a house but by midday the sun was shining again. In the afternoon I was working with Shankok on a list of agricultural gennas. Late in the evening two already familiar men from Chongwe came with all sorts of ornaments for which they initially demanded a huge price but finally accepted less. I could not get rid of them and they brought more and more things out of their filthy bags. Now at night it is pouring with rain. |
