Today I had more luck with my photographs. Again it was a beautiful morning and I went to the old fields with Metlou. At first no one was to be seen anywhere but the rice covered the hilly slopes with its wonderful saturated green like a bright carpet and thus provided a spectacular view by itself with the white mountains of clouds in a blue sky. A gang of about ten boys was working on the fields of an old Thepong man. Further down on the way to the big bridge we then found many people working on a field which belonged to Duknie, the Angban man who is the morung Ang in the Thepong. People from four morungs are working on his field. Angban boys with some Thepong girls and Balang girls with boys of the Oukheang. That is because in his household (no. 17) there also is a Balang girl, Nanglim, the unmarried daughter of the deceased morung Ang of the Balang and Dzemang's half sister. Apart from the young people who were all very cheerful there also were several older women. |
