sadness at farewell to Shankok , a true friend |
text: |
When finally it came time to say goodbye to Shankok as well we were both moved. He had tears in his eyes and he turned away not to let me see them. Only when we had gone on a few steps he again waved to us. I was very touched. I had never found it so difficult to say goodbye to a man. Shankok really is a good friend and he will always remain for me to be the symbol of this happy time. May God give that I will see him again. The other gaonburas did not catch up with us but I knew that they had business in Kongan anyway and I assumed that they would come down to Kongan. It was very hot but this time the climb to Kongan (220) was not very difficult for me. Last time the air had been much more oppressive. The coolies were carrying even the heaviest boxes individually but they did switch around quite frequently. My two poor kittens also came along as no one in Wakching wanted them. I arrived in Borjan early in the afternoon. Major and Mrs Williams are here as well, it was nice to see them again. |
