Thevo, or village priest, of the Eastern Angamis |
text: |
During this period the Thevo does not eat any of the meat given to him, but gives it away. Moreover he must not sleep with his wife (or any other woman) for all these three and a half years. Similarly his wife must remain chaste. |

(13) During this period of 7 harvests he cannot divorce his wife - they only can separate, but she remains all the time under the same restrictions. |
text: |
If the Thevo's wife commits adultery, she and the Thevo are exiled and a new Thevo is elected. The old Thevo may come back after seven years (harvests). The same happens if the Thevo breaks any of the gennas; by such an act he automatically ceases to be Thevo. |

Even an involuntary or accidental offence against any of the genna rules, deprives him of (14) magical powers and a new Thevo has to be elected. |

Once a woman from Theprezumi came to the house of the Thevo of Pfesa-Chadumi and picked out the lice in the hair of the Thevo's wife. After a time it became known that she had taken one hair of the Thevo's wife with her to Theprezumi. Immediately the Thevo and his wife had to be exiled, because a part of them - and therefore of the magical substance of the village was taken to another village. |
