(141) The five Neangs of the five morungs make the omen where to cultivate each year, they collect eggs from the five morungs and take them to the field house of the Ang, there they make the omen, - to which direction they shall go, - from this they see where they will get enough crops. They first pierce the egg with a needle and warm the egg from the bottom with a piece of burning wood, then a little of the white of the egg comes out. They spread leaves on the ground, break the (142) egg, and how the egg falls they see if the planned direction is good or bad. The Neangs order the villagers not to steal in the fields or in the houses, and not to destroy the crops. From those who steal they will take daos or layas etc. and sell these things and buy pigs and eat them. |
