The initiation is done for all boys of about 10 of one morung on one day, after harvest, by an old man of the clan. For a rich man's eldest son several pigs are killed within the house. For Shankok ten were killed, for his younger brother, only one. Chinyak (Sha-yong-hu) comes and drinks first of the madhu and eats first of the rice. He also gets the head of one pig. [konyak] (159) With this the ceremonies seem to be finished. The day is not genna. From this day on the boy goes to sleep in the morung. One month after that a puja is made for the girls. (160) At the initiation ceremony for girls, Chinyak doesn't come, the clan elder kills the pig. This ceremony also is done for all girls at one time. Then the girls put on a skirt. The food (pork) is eaten on that day by the girls' female relatives and the oldest woman of the clan at the women's platform near the path. |
