If in the old times a young man and an unmarried girl had intercourse and the girl became pregnant and they don't want to marry then the girl procured abortion (apparently by pressing the womb). Now-a-days the girl gives birth to the child in her parents' house and the father of the child pays 2 rupees monthly for the child as long as the girl remains unmarried. If she married he has no more to pay and the mother takes the child to the house of her husband. (25) The child, however, belongs to the clan of his real father. |

If an unmarried man commits adultery with an unmarried girl and she becomes pregnant, he either may take her as his second wife or he also pays for the child who remains with the mother until grown up and then comes to stay with the father. |

In the old time a young man paid apparently instead of 2 rupees monthly, once one laya if the girl did not procure abortion. (26) If a woman is pregnant and somebody marries her, she may deliver the child in her husband's house in which case it becomes his child and takes his name. But if her husband objects she delivers it in her parents' house or the house of the child's father, and stays with it until it is weaned. In this case it remains the physical father's child. |
