The Chingha and Lingba morung have their ceremony in the house of Lem-ang. On the platform of this house the son of Lem-ang, a mere youth, killed one small cow which was provided by the morung. He didn't say any words. Anyone may kill that cow. He killed it with the day (sic) and it was cut up at once. In the morung the old men (66) come all together in Lem-ang's house and brought one basket of dhan from every house of the morung. With this dhan they bought the cow. They also brought some chaul which is boiled with the meat and the old men eat it in Lem-ang's house. While the cow was cut up the old man of the Chingha morung made two bundles of split bamboo, sugar cane, tunkapat and a prickly creeper. In the evening he will put them down at the path to the fields. This genna is made for the millet and Indian corn, and vegetables (67) but it isn't yet sowing time, but the fields are just jhuming. Lem-ang himself also cuts two chickens. In doing this he says: [konyak]. (68) Words when the old man puts down the two bundles: [konyak]. With the bundles he also puts down some leaf cups with madhu. All the old men take leaf cups with madhu and pour them out in front of Lem-ang's house (cf. notebook 28th Dec.) (69) and says: [konyak] "you first drink then I shall drink". |

About two weeks another genna, the Li-rhem-ba was made which is very like the Lendzim-ba - it is made for the rice. |
