(77) For the foundation of a village the Shungtokhu clan is necessary. First the jungle is cleared and the dwelling houses built. The next year the morung is built, only the fourth year the foundation ceremony is made. A pig and a chicken (both male) are killed at the genna tree near the morung by the oldest man of the village. He says: [konyak]. (78) Then all the adult men eat the pig. The village observes a genna of six days. A man of Shayanghu clan does the first sowing and the building of the first fieldhouse. There is no "first reaping" - the office is hereditary. |
