(97) When the Ahom rajahs were defeated by the Singphos they took refuge in Namsang. The Namsang hid them in their village. Then they fought against the Singphos at Koshudzal. That is a place on the Dikhu, a short distance upstream from Borjan. They beat the Singphos and even got one of their long daos, which is still in the morung. They then chased them down the Dikhu till the place where it flows into the Brahmaputra; there they set a post as boundary mark and declared that all (98) the country up to that mark belongs to them and has to pay tribute. The Assamese paid them as tribute buffaloes, daos, fish, opium, rice etc. The Namsang men say that the Ahom Rajah gave orders that four blacksmiths and four fishermen should work only for the Nagas. |
