When a man kills another man of Wakching he must leave the village and the relatives of the murdered man asks a fine from his relatives. (NB 3, p. 51). Shankok remembers no murder case. But remembers that once a man wounded another man. Dungna (Metahu, Thepong) was married to Pongya (Leunok, Bala) but she still lived in her parents' house. They had no intercourse. Pongya's lover was Nieang (Nokanokphong, Angban). Dungna warned Nieang that he would not tolerate the affair. But Nieang (139) went on meeting Pongya. One night he came to see her at her parents' house and while they sat (or lay) on a machan in the porch, Dungna, who was suspicious came to see whether Pongya was with a man. When he saw Neiang he hit him all over with the blunt side of his dao. Nieang broke down bleeding from several wounds and was very long ill. Dungna had to pay a fine to the Niengbas, but not to Nieang. Pongya was so angry about Dungna's behaviour, that she married another man. |
