Today Chinkak's, (the Ang), small daughter died, Ngindzai. Since the mother of the deceased child is of Tanhai, some Tanhai men and girls came. As only a small child died the morung doesn't keep a genna, even the people of Angnokphong clan went to their fields, except one man of each house of the clan. (62) All households of the Angnokphong clan give small offerings of rice to the deceased and after the funeral thy give one pot of rice each. Of the other clans of the morung only the "Great Houses" give these offerings and gifts in the name of the whole clan. The coffin will be carried by the old men of the morung. (63) Kongan will also give one chicken to Chinkak and so will the other "sons" of Wakching. The Benba, Api, us applying the red colour to the coffin. From the inside of the house one hears the wailing of the Ang's wife. Outside a crowd of about 15 children are standing about. They are not impressed by the death at all, but laughed and look with interest at the coffin. (64) Wangpo and Api are putting a mat into the coffin and cutting off its edges. |
