When going to war they say: [konyak]. (134) In a war party are two leaders (phau-lei-ba) who go ahead and usually attack first. (135) In the war against Mongnyu (Phem) all Wakching morungs fought. In the raid on Phem, Wanching, Kongan, Tanhai, Punkhung, Shiong, took part. Previously Phem had taken 12 Wanching heads, when Wanching went to raid Phem. By the combination of villages, Phem was defeated. Wakching and its allies had guns while Phem had none. Wakching and allies attacked on plain day (about noon) and hit some people with their (136) guns, but they didn't get one single head. The Phem people fled and carried their wounded with them. Some Wakching people were hit by spears, many wounded by panjis, but none on either side was killed. |
