text: | Pokri belonged to Chitutsumi khel but, because he quarrelled with the gaonbura, he joined the Rohotsumi khel, but he never moved his house - his change was simply verbal. The effect of that was that if there was a Rh. funeral he shared the Rh. meat. For this reason he ceased to be Thewo - the case had never occurred before, therefore the custom was not quite certain. The Rh. khel have certain disabilities (they are under taboo). A Kekerima went to Razama and found an orphan boy. She took him to the village where his parentage was unknown and there was some doubt if he might not be a bastard. He went to Pfesa-Chadumi when the village was founded and his descendants form part of the Rhohetsumi khel. The name of the boy was Rhoho, and the khel was called [after him]. Since the khel contains the descendants of a possible bastard, it may not provide a (25) Thewo, first reaper and first sower. It might provide a Chekru. If anybody rebuilds his house, the Rh. khel has to wait till the people have finished. If Pokri had gone to any other khel he might have remained Thewo. |
