(27) Thewo can't go to another village till the 7th harvest is over. Afterwards he may go to another village, but he always must take with him his own food. If there is a male descendant of the Thewo's clan living on the Thewo's site he can't be turned out. A widow or a daughter would be turned out. (28) The Thewo doesn't do any ceremonies except eating first at ceremonies. The Thewo doesn't do the rain-making ceremony, but when rain is necessary the village chooses somebody who is willing to do it. It is a risky job because if it doesn't rain the rain-maker becomes poor, if it rains he gets rich. Before anybody has drawn water, the rain-maker draws water from the village spring, in a gourd, and with this and a little piece of wormwood he sprinkles certain graves. Thenezumi has got 2 graves to be sprinkled, Pfesa-Chadumi has got one). The graves belong to a particular clan. When a man of this clan dies (29) there comes a draught. At Pfesa-Chadumi the clan died out which is considered as very good. The graves of this clan are very taboo and can't even be touched. Name of clan: Kapotsumi. |
