text: Recently there was a dispute about land near Bittar-Namsang between Joboka (Yan-ha) and Hang-nyu. Lambert went to settle it on the spot - then an argument which is the senior village, Hang-nyu said that up to 40 years ago (22) they used to get tribute from Joboka, and Joboka still does a genna outside their village in honour of the Ang of Hang-nyu. Oting being too far from Hang-nyu to give tribute to Hang-nyu still do a genna in the name of the Ang of Oting. Hang-nyu said that the only reason why the tribute was stopped was that the great Ang, (Taiwang), died 40 years [ago]. When he died his sons and younger brother quarrelled who should be Ang. They couldn't get a decent Ang so they sent to Chi for an Ang. The Ang of Chi wouldn't send a real Ang because the Ang clan had not died out. He said as there were 3 claimants it would only add to the trouble. He sent some Under Ang (23) who was sent back. Then they applied [to] Po-mau (a distant village 2 days away), they sent a real Ang. He stayed there about 15 years, then he sent word to his elder brothers in Po-mau that the Ang sons of Hang took all the tribute, "Nobody takes my orders and I want to resign". Po-mau said "Don't do that, we will invite the Hang-nyu Angs and kill them". The plot was revealed to the Hang-nyu Angs. Only one, Lowang, went with an enormous escort armed with guns. He stayed there one night and went back. Then Hang-nyu immediately decided to turn out the Po-mau Ang, then they again asked advice (24) from Chi. Chi sent senior men to see about the trouble. Then they crossed Hang-nyu and said "You young Angs had no business to disobey the Po-mau Ang - do send the Ang away and we will take back all our Chi men". The servants of the Po-mau Ang said, "We have become Hang-nyu men - we will take heads from Po-mau". So four men went to Po-mau and took two heads from men sleeping in the morung. They were chased at night and were surrounded. Two were killed, one got away and one climbed a tree. Then they made a fire under the tree to smoke him out. They had killed the two men without (25) knowing that they were Po-mau men. As they couldn't kill the man in the tree, being a Po-mau man, the Ang killed him with a gun, as he is above all gennas. The Ang climbed the next tree and was first slightly hurt by a dao thrown. Then Auwang, the elder brother of Lowang became Ang and he still is Ang.
text: Lambert heard this dispute and decided that the land should go to Hangnyu and Joboka agreed. Next thing was that Joboka men went by railway to Kohima to find that Bor was out, they said that they never agreed. (27) Then they went to Wakching and Lambert asked that they take an oath that they had not agreed to him. The Ang swore, and died at once when he came to his village. Then Yangyiu told Lambert that Hangnyu was younger than Joboka. So Joboka got cross and asked from Yangnyu 100 Rupees.
