text: All the officials I had met last night came this morning and we went in three vehicles (two would have done too!) first to Mahur, which is on the railway, and then to several Zemi villages on the road to Laisong. Haflong is attractively situated on a broad spur which drops steeply into the valley [?of the Diyung river]. The railway too runs in the valley. Its construction in the 1920s has really opened up this country even before there were road communications.
text: The well-constructed roads run through luscious jungle and past jhums and a few paddy-fields. On one we saw a buffalo on a single yoke.
text: We passed a village of Christian 'Khasis' (from the Jaintia hills) - the people we saw on the road were much darker than normal Khasis.
text: Next we came to a Dimasa village, where we did not stop, and finally we reached Mahur, which is mainly a site of various government buildings and a railway station.
