The High School meant for a group of villages including Wanching and Kongan is a surprising institution. There are 17 teachers from various parts of India as far as Kerala, and about 140 students. It is housed in a long wooden building consisting of one very long hall with school desks and benches. Children read up to the tenth standard, i.e. matriculation. At present there are only 2 students in the 10th form, however. The School is still faced by many difficulties and particularly the low level of comprehension of English which is the language of instruction. For the past few years none of the students passed the matriculation examination. The number of teachers seems certainly excessive. Yet, a new High School building costing many lakhs of rupees has already been sanctioned. |
