text: (69) In the centre of the village, on the very highest part is a tin-roofed building, - decorated however with carvings of hornbills in morung style. It is the panchayat hall built with a government grant four years ago. Shoupa said that it was never used because the village-council met in houses round a fire, and bigger gatherings were held on the open place in front of the Ang's morung. This useless hall is only one example of the many redundant innovations imposed on the Konyaks because there is not sufficient understanding of their own institutions.
