Longkhai burnt for involvement with resistance movement |
text: |
The second reason for the changes in Longkhai is the fact that during the height of the underground movement, and when Mauwang was still alive, the entire village was burnt as a punishment by the Indian forces. Apparently Longkhai joined the underground in a body, and took part in raids on security forces. The beautiful carving in the Ang morung no doubt also fell victim to the flames. Though the morungs were then rebuilt the spirit had gone out of morung life, and the last morung in existence serves only as an assembly hall. |
