To Tekhubama. The Theniazuma Gaonburas turned up with the encroachers - five of them - whom I fined Rs10/- each. At Tekhubama Lumakami came in to complain of (a) looting by one Khuzhokhu, a Sema from Sishimi who has taken 10 houses and settled near Lumakami and is taking their land, and (b) looting of mithan and pig by one of the khels of Thachumi. I said I could not interfere. Lumakami is a little Sangtam village and dare not touch a Sema or all the Semas in the neighbourhood would come down on it. Equally they dare not offer resistance to a big village like Thachumi. |

A Kuki, one Jamasei of Khullen in the Manipur State, also came to see me here. He said that during the rebellion the chief of his village - Amjapao - joined the rebels (this is true. He did a good deal of looting up Lapvomi way and was with Chengjapao) and he, Jamasei, ran the village and paid in their revenues and was recognized by the Political Agent. He was already a sort of Sub-chief. Now he says apparently that Amjapao on the pretext of raising a loan has collected money and paid it in as revenue thus getting his own name put back as head-man in place of Jamasei, who wanted a chit from me. I refused to give him a chit and told him to go to President, Manipur State Durbar, as it was his business not mine. He said that he had been and that President, M.S.D. said write a petition, but that the petition taker refused to admit his petitions or to pass them on to President, M.S.D. I told him that he had better try again. |

We saw from here (Tekhubama Bungalow) a mighty smoke, as of a village burning, go up from a point on the Saramati range North-West of Saramati. The Lumakami Gaonbura located it as Zichomung, a Yachumi village of which I have not heard before, and said it was probably getting burnt in a raid. |
