To Metikumi, about 7 miles, from which I returned to the river (the Thetsarr) to camp. From the village I was able to see the Haijang ridge well enough to select a stream as a northern boundary for the proposed colony of Ngunkhulal and Pasut's people, but Metikumi, though they do not jhum across it, have got some panikhets on the far side, and a salt well, so that I shall have to go and look at the place, which will take all day. In the evening I caught two small fish on flies. If I had had smaller flies I should have got many more as they are most voracious tiddlers and positively leap at the bait doing their best to swallow small salmonflies. Damdims very bad here. The Metikumi people asked to be allowed to pay revenues, but agreed that a red cloth given to the Gaonbura would be enough to protect them from anyone who might wish to interfere with them. |
