To Dimapur and thence back to Kohima. At Dimapur I dealt with the still pending question of the attachment and sale of the Lahurijan Tea Estate, of which we have some property attached in Dimapur but of comparatively little value. I also wanted to know what the local police were trying to do, or failing to do, in the matter of the recent attempt to wreck the mail near Rangapahar. Apparently they had avoided doing anything on the grounds that it was within the jurisdiction of the Railway police. The population of Rangapahar is very small and it should be easy to find out at least whether it was the work of local mal-contents or of outside interlopers. |

There seems to be a threatened incursion of non-co-operators into Dimapur to picket the Excise shops. Many non-co-operators come to buy Manipuri cloths, which are sold by the Kayas there, and there is little foreign cloth in the Dimapur shops, but it appears that the immunity of Dimapur from the anti-liquor and anti-opium movement has attracted their attention and they wish to teach it a lesson. They are, perhaps, as like to learn one themselves. |
