Halted Wokha, visited the hospital, and inspected the raingauge and registers. They are both all right but there are only two inspection cards here for informing the Director Land Records and Agriculture of the inspection, a matter he is very particular about, and I have used up one of them. |

I also went to see the land applied for by the Impur Mission, about which there is much ill-feeling, the Gaonburas wishing to go back on their undertaking to part with it. They would also go back on their appointment of Nlamo as puti if they could find a way of getting rid of him, but they can't. It is he who is responsible for the negotiations with the Mission. |

I think the Inspection Bungalow compound could be improved by letting the grass grow right up to the Inspection Bungalow instead of scraping away unnecessary patches, and by putting a path of rough but flat stones across the grass from the door step of the west bathroom to the latrine, to which one usually has to wade in the rains. I do not suggest scraping away the grass to make a footpath of red clay and puddles. |

In the afternoon, after other cases, more of Lamchamo's stolen rupees - Rs 120/9/6. Apparently the loser went straight to Wozamo and said "as you are a seer, tell me where my rupees are". Wozamo suggested calling in Sansawo (not present today) and Wozamo told Nlamo (so Nlamo says though Wozamo denied it) that Rs 5/- was in a glove hidden in a bamboo plantation in the jungle. Nlamo went to Lanchamo and told him that the two seers had produced Rs 5/-, which, of course, they had not, and which has never been produced. Wozamo's house is next to Lanchamo's and Nlamo's opposite it. Lanchamo says that there was a quarrel between Wozamo and Nlamo over the statement that there were Rs 5/- in a glove in the Bamboos. The Gaonburas were never called in nor the dobashi at Wokha, the matter being confined to Nlamo, the two Wokha seers, the Brahman, and Lanchamo - arcades omnes. Nlamo is said to have stated the Subdivisional Officer had dismissed the case. |

The Gaonburas also raised the question of the payment for the Wokha land if they part with it to the Mission. They say that it is Nlamo's intention to go and get the money from Dr. Bailey at Impur and then eat it all himself. Quite likely. |
