Sent up a dobashi and some gaonburas to see the mad forester about his lines. I explained to them that it was a question of a contract which they could refuse if they pleased. I expect they will take the lines near their villages, but I am very much afraid that if the Forester cannot understand the dobashi any better than he does me, it will end in a dispute as to the terms of the contract. |

From Horupani I camped in the jungle at the site of a temporary village by a place marked as Lungking Bil near Kusomariagaon, having examined on the way a stone monolith a few miles from Horupani, and a stone carved circular water trough in concentric circles, the outer one with a spout. There was the ruins of a brick building round them, and the Nagas know the water-trough as the "King of Assam's hand basin" but I don't think it is that. I dug up and turned over a half buried stone which proved to have a shallow almost triangular trough cut in the buried side of it and the monolith had had two circular holes near the top which was broken. |
