Via Photsimi to the junction of the Tizu below Karami. On the way the Thachumi Gaonburas met me at Photsimi, very humble and grovelling, for all their previous boasts, now that I was really coming. |

At the junction of the river the escort had not turned up. The letter I sent them first had been mysteriously swapped on the way for a sheet from a kaya's account book possibly because the kaya can run to better paper than my contingent grant. I had, however, sent off a second note on the 12th. Hordes of Semas, both Tame and wild, were waiting at the river and the escort turned up later, having got my note early in the same morning. Thachumi promised every sort of reparation, but produced nothing but the usual salaams. Saramati, with her cap of snow on her a lovely sight and quite close. |
